CANADA NEEDS ELECTORAL REFORM
The full executive powers of our Parliament in Canada is held by the Monarchy, which has not exercised them. It is the Prime Minister of Canada who exercises power. The question is then "Is Canada a true democracy"?
In national elections, the Prime Minister is not directly elected by Canadians. The Prime Minister is the party leader of the party that has the most seats in the House of Commons.
The Prime Minister has many unilateral powers, too many, which include the authority in the following:
PREROGATIVE POWERS.
DECLARE WAR.
RATIFY TREATIES.
DENY PARTY MP THE RIGHT TO DEBATE IN PARLIAMENT.
DENY MP TO RUN FOR RE-ELECTION.
DISSOLVE PARLIAMENT.
REMOVE MP FROM THE PARTY CAUCUS
APPOINT THE GOVERNOR GENERAL OF CANADA
APPOINT HEADS OF MILITARY, RCMP & GOVERNMENT AGENCIES.
APPOINT SUPREME COURT JUDGES & FEDERAL JUSTICES.
APPOINT SENATORS.
APPOINT ALL MEMBERS TO CABINET.
APPOINT ENTIRE BOARD TO BANK OF CANADA.
RUN FOR RE-ELECTION INDEFINITELY.
ABSOLUTE POWERS ONCE MERELY FOR MONARCHS HAVE BEEN PASSED DOWN TO PRIME MINISTERS. THIS IS DANGEROUS TO OUR
DEMOCRACY!
